Blog: Don’t Fear Fever — Embrace the Healing Heat

When someone in the family spikes a temperature, it’s natural to worry and reach for a fever-reducing remedy. But what if we told you that fever is not your enemy—it’s actually a powerful ally?

A fever is not a malfunction. It’s your body’s built-in defence mechanism—a response orchestrated by the hypothalamus (your internal thermostat) to deal with viruses, bacteria, and even damaged cells. Instead of fearing fever, it’s time to understand its purpose and power.

What Exactly Is a Fever?

Under normal conditions, our body temperature stays around 37°C.  When the immune system detects infection, it signals the hypothalamus to raise the body’s temperature. A mild fever begins around 38°C and a high fever is considered anything over 39.5°C.

A fever will cause an increase in metabolism. During a fever, your body uses more oxygen, increases your heart and respiratory rates, and uses more protein as an energy source.

Though it may feel uncomfortable, fever is a sign that your immune system is doing its job.

The Benefits of Letting a Fever Run Its Course

  1. A fever activates your Immune system and redirects your body’s energy towards healing.  At temperatures above 37.5°C, digestion slows downs and appetite also drops. This temporary shutdown shifts energy from digestion toward antibody production and immune function
  2. Your immune system works better in higher temperatures, which is why we experience fewer colds and flu in summer. As your white blood cells become more active, a fever helps your cells respond more rapidly against the infection.
  3. Fever promotes sweating, which helps the body release toxins through the skin. This natural detoxification process supports faster recovery and elimination of waste.

Treating a Fever

Fevers are often treated as something to suppress, but unless dangerously high or prolonged, mild to moderate fevers should be monitored, not feared.

That said, it’s important to stay hydrated and rest. You can also put a cool washcloth on the patient’s forehead head or neck or get them to take a lukewarm/tepid—not hot, not cold—bath or shower to help bring a fever down.  For most healthy individuals, a fever is a natural, intelligent response to restore balance.

It is far better to treat the patient with the Pegasus Teething, Pain & Fever 30C remedy, which will help the body use the fever as a ‘healing tool’.  The risk of temperature spiking is very unlikely and once the patient has healed, they will also have strengthened their immune system.

By suppressing the fever with an allopathic drug, you’re ‘short circuiting’ the body’s immune response and stand a lower chance of building up immunity.

Should the fever spike to above 39,5 while on the remedy, then by all means, take an allopathic over-the-counter anti-pyretic.
